Cadw is the historic environment service of the Welsh Assembly Government.

Many of Wales's great castles and other monuments, such as bishop's palaces, historic houses, and ruined abbeys, are now in Cadw's care. Cadw does not own them but is responsible for their upkeep and for making them accessible to the public.

Cadw is also responsible for listing and ensuring the preservation of historic buildings and archaeological sites.

Created in 1984, its headquarters are in Nantgarw, just north of Cardiff.
